One state has reported a jaw-dropping 36,286 UFO sightings over the years…
It turns out where you live might just have something to do with your chances of being taken by extraterrestrials, as some states are serious UFO hotspots.
If you ever find yourself lying awake worried about little green men snatching you up, you may want to look away now.
Using information from the National UFO Reporting Center – which has logged around 149,000 reports – along with media articles, researchers have pinpointed which states are most frequently visited by mysterious flying objects and, potentially, aliens.
By crunching the numbers, Casino.CA figured out which US states have racked up the most UFO reports – making them likely candidates for an alien encounter.
Starting off the list in 10th place is Nevada, which has seen roughly one UFO sighting for every 1,740 people. Colorado isn’t far behind, with about one report for every 1,715 people.
Arizona takes the seventh spot, boasting one sighting per 1,512 people, while Pennsylvania secures sixth place with one sighting for every 1,456 residents.
But now we’re heading into the top five, where things start to get even more interesting.
5. New York
Despite the blinding city lights, New York makes the top five with a UFO sighting rate of one for every 1,301 people. You’d think all that hustle and bustle might scare them off, but apparently not.
Given that around eight million people call the city home, it’s no wonder that there have been about 6,149 reported sightings here.
4. Oregon
Oregon isn’t too far behind. With one sighting for every 1,156 people, locals in this scenic state have reported about 3,460 UFO encounters to date.
3. Florida
Florida lands in the number three spot. With more than 11,000 reported sightings – around one for every 1,144 residents – it’s no stranger to strange things in the sky.
One viral clip even shows a UFO zipping across a Florida beach at what viewers claim was ‘2,000 MPH’.
And now, for the final two states where alien fans might want to stay extra alert…
2. Washington
Washington clocks in with a whopping 7,125 reported sightings since 1974. That’s about one sighting for every 1,093 people in the state.
Given Washington’s UFO reputation – and cinematic history – this may not come as too much of a shock to some.
1. California
At the very top of the list is California, which has earned the nickname ‘UFO capital of America’. Since 1974, it has racked up an astonishing 36,286 reported sightings.
With about one sighting for every 1,075 residents, California has even reported mass UFO sightings near military bases.
So next time you’re out hiking around the Hollywood Hills, you might want to keep an eye on the skies!
